In a press conference today, Apple introduced an updated Mac Mini, the next model to make the transition to Intel processors. The system will ship in two configurations; a $599 version with a 1.5GHz Core Solo processor, combo drive, and 60GB hard drive; and a $799 model with a 1.66GHz Core Duo processor, superdrive, and 80GB hard drive. Both models now include Front Row software and the Apple remote. Strangely enough, even the high-end Mac Mini is equipped with a meager on-board Intel GMA950 graphics chip. In contrast, previous Mac Mini models had a Radeon 9200 that
didn't eat into the system's main memory.
Apple also announced a new iPod accessory - the iPod Hi-Fi. This $349 boombox is powered through a wall adaptor or 6 D batteries, and offers high-fidelity sound output for iPod. iPod Hi-Fi comes with 10 universal dock adaptors to support different iPod models, an AC adaptor, and a removable front grill. Of course, your tunes can be controlled with the included Apple remote.
Also on the iPod front are new leather cases from Apple, available for the iPod with video and iPod nano for $99 each. Featuring an "ingenious black ribbon" that allows for easy iPod removal, these expensive cases are made from fine italian leather.
